EULAR Workshop for Trainers on Crystal Detection and Identification in Synovial Fluid

The technical capacity for crystal detection and identification in synovial fluid is one of the activities included in the EULAR core curriculum of Rheumatology

This workshop is aimed to rheumatologists working in training units.

 

Aim

To provide the attendants with enough basic knowledge as to enable them to start in their own rheumatology units a laboratory on synovial fluid analysis for crystal detection and identification. The final aim is to enforce the technique of crystal detection and identification in training units assuring the training of their residents.

 

Participants

Rheumatologists with training responsibilities working at rheumatology training units. A maximum of 16 will be admitted.

 

Venue

The workshop will be held at the Palais de Congrès in Paris,
11 June 2008, from 13.00 - 16.30 h, in room 353.

 

Method

The workshop will include a short introductory session, followed with time for individual discussion. The faculty will include Eliseo Pascual (Spain) and Thomas Bardin (France) as chairs; José Pimentao (Portugal), Leonardo Punzi (Italy), Francesca Oliviero (Italy) and Francisca Sivera (Spain) as tutors.

 

Contents
  • Short introductory lecture on the essentials of crystals detection and identification in Synovial Fluid (about 20 min)
  • Observation of synovial fluid samples containing MSU and CPPD crystals with close supervision by the tutors till the attendants will feel confident (about 3 hours)
