Educational activities

Education and training in rheumatology is one of the key strategic areas of activity of EULAR. To this end, EULAR sponsors grants and bursaries that emphasises the value of education and training. EULAR provides an extensive programme of educational workshops and training courses for trainee and specialized rheumatologists, offered at regular intervals.

With the Postgraduate Course, EULAR seeks to harmonise and update the professional knowledge of European rheumatologists, whilst giving the participants the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and experiences. In addition to the many courses organized throughout Europe, EULAR has launched its first on-line course on rheumatic diseases in March 2007. The second course started beginning of April 2008.

UEMS

EULAR, in view of its educational programme and activities, is represented on the UEMS Section of Rheumatology.

UEMS establishes common criteria for specialists to move between member countries. It continues to focus on professional and training issues that are relevant to the ability for doctors to practice in any member state with mutual recognition of their training. UEMS works closely with the European Commission and the Advisory Committee for Medical Training (ACMT). In 1993, the European Board of Rheumatology was created by the UEMS Section of Rheumatology as a working group to guarantee optimal care in rheumatology by bringing the training of  rheumatologists to the highest level possible.
