Alliance Against Arthritis is a EULAR initiative bringing together its Scientific Committee, the Standing Committee for PARE and the Allied Health Professionals. The initiative was launched in Brussels in 2002, with an AAA event now being held every year. The AAA has the threefold objective of lobbying as a united front at the European level for

  • stronger disability legislation
  • greater funding for research into arthritis/rheumatism
  • improved access to treatments.
AAA Action Day 2010

During the 7th Action Day in Brussles EULAR focused on the European 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7), which was launched in 2007 and lasts until 2013. The AAA FP7 workshop was well attended by EULAR delegates. For the first time, representatives from EULAR's national
scientific societies joined the event together with patient organisations as the topic was highly relevant for all.

AAA Action Day 2007

The 4th Action Day served to recapitulate the outcomes of EULAR's European activities in the past months and to discuss future priorities of the rheumatology sector. The main elements of Action Day were a meeting on advocacy strategies and the future EULAR EU activities as well as a whole-day workshop for EULAR and Social Leagues representatives.

AAA Action Day 2006

The third AAA Action Day brought together arthritis patients, health specialists and researchers from all over Europe. Several events took place in parallel: At a lunch-debate entitled 'What place and priorities for European health research?' and held in the European Parliament, MEPs and health research stakeholders emphasised the need for a more visible place of health research on the EU research agenda in order to tackle national research deficiencies.

AAA Action Day 2005

The second AAA Action Day included a lunch debate in the European Parliament for EULAR and Social Leagues representatives and officials from the European institutions. The patients representatives workshop aimed at providing information about the functioning of EU institutions and sketching future joint actions needed to convince EU decision-makers of the need to give rheumatic diseases a more visible place in policy making. Not least, several meetings between patients' representatives and members of the European Parliament, European Commission and the Council took place during the two days.
