EULAR European cross-sector activities
Politics have a fundamental impact on the conditions under which researchers and health professionals do their work and under which people with rheumatic diseases live their lives. Influencing politics is therefore a key function of an umbrella organisation like EULAR.
In its political work, EULAR has to recognise the strong interdependences between the European Union and its member states on the one hand, and between policy fields (health, research, social etc.) on the other hand.
EULAR has therefore developed a range of initiatives to bring decision-makers, practitioners and patients together. The ultimate aim of these activities is to improve the lives of dozens of millions of people affected by rheumatic and muscoskeletal diseases.
AAA - Alliance Against ArthritisThe Alliance Against Arthritis Action Day (AAA) takes place every year in March. It is EULAR's most important political event and is organised in Brussels. The AAA days bring together leading policy makers, researchers, patients, health professionals and other stakeholders to discuss current and future political initiatives.
EHFG European Health Forum GasteinEvery year in October, the European Health Forum in Gastein (EHFG) in Austria is the place where health ministries' representatives, European Union staff, stakeholder organisations and journalists meet. The four day conference is today Europe's most important public health get-together and a unique place for networking. EULAR has participated in the EFHG several times as organiser of workshops, provider of speakers and sender of participants representing all components of the rheumatic disease community.
European Election Campaign 2009In June 2009, new members of the European Parliament were elected in the 27 member states. Given the importance of the European Parliament for EU policies, EULAR closely followed the elections and their outcome. A questionnaire had been sent to the candidates to assess their support for the demands of the rheumatic disease community. EULAR is about to develop a close relationship with key members and committees of the European Parliament.
Written Declarations on Rheumatic Diseases - 2005 and 2008In 2005 and 2008 the European Parliament powerfully showed its support for rheumatic diseases in signing and adopting with record participation two Written Declarations. These Declarations lend support to all key demands of our community: more research funding, better access to diagnosis, treatment and care, as well as better disability legislation. |
