Standing Committee of Paediatric Rheumatology
Initiatives and activities
- Endorsing educational courses has become an activity of the standing committee in
collaboration with the Standing Committee for Education and Training. The standing committee has
applied for bursaries from EULAR for a course to be held in Turkey in 2007. This course was held
along the Paediatric Congress that took place on 5-9 September 2007. The main theme was the
management of juvenile idiopathic arthritis and autoinflammatory diseases as well as a session
on musculoskeletal ultrasonography.
- EULAR courses for paediatric rheumatology are suggested to be held every other year starting
in 2008.
- A future task for the standing committee will be to encourage fellowships for training from
Eastern European countries. This task requires the definition of reference centres, which will
again need collaboration with the Paediatric Society.
- The standing committee meets every year during the EULAR Congresses and convenes the
scientific sessions of the EULAR meetings. The scientific sessions are to be convened by the
Chair and the national representatives of the Paediatric Standing Committee. The
representatives have recently been largely renewed and will meet again at the standing
committee meeting during the EULAR Congress in Barcelona in 2007 (time and room to be announced
on the programme).
- The Chair for the Standing Committee of Paediatric Rheumatology has undertaken and completed
an exciting work endorsed by EULAR. This task has accomplished the first classification criteria
for childhood vasculitides. It is hoped that the new criteria will enable a uniform language in
future studies and improve management of these patients. The validation of these criteria is
planned under the umbrella of ESCISIT.
- The PRINTO website can be visited for ongoing trials among the Paediatric Rheumatology
Society of Europe.
