EMEUNET - The Emerging EULAR Network

EMEUNET is an exciting community that started its activities in 2009, emanating from one of the objectives set by EULAR – "Bring onboard high quality, young generation contributors in all EULAR activities". This statement was seized upon as an opportunity to address educational needs and promote aspiring young academics' research interests by creating and developing a Europe-wide network of young rheumatologists. To achieve this, the committee organises a range of high-quality activities and programmes for its community.

Organised into sub-committees, we manage Education, Peer Mentoring, Newsletters, Social Media, Country Liaisons, and Visibility & Global Affairs. We share opportunities via our website, social media platforms, podcasts, and Country Liaisons.

EMEUNET members can participate in mentoring, educational, and networking activities, including EULAR task forces and committees. Members can also join sub-committees, ensuring broad representation across EULAR countries.

Since our 10th anniversary in 2019, we have expanded our activities and membership, now exceeding 2,500 members worldwide. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, we successfully adapted to virtual formats for EULAR congresses and continued our activities online.

In 2020, EMEUNET was officially recognised as a EULAR Committee, enhancing our role within EULAR. In 2022, we resumed in-person activities at the EULAR congress.

Our achievements are driven by the commitment of our members, sub-committees, and country liaisons. EMEUNET values equality and inclusion, welcoming young rheumatologists and researchers from diverse backgrounds. Membership is free and open to those under 40 involved in rheumatology.

Join us to influence rheumatology education and research, engage in EMEUNET and EULAR activities, and help improve rheumatology practice in Europe and beyond.

The Steering Committee supports EULAR's aims to reduce the impact of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) on the individual and society and to improve the social position and the quality of life of people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases in Europe.

In furtherance of these aims, the Steering Committee focuses on the activities of young rheumatologists, rheumatologists in training and researchers in the field of rheumatology.

The EMEUNET Sub-Committees (Education, Social Media, Peer Mentoring, Visibility and Global Affairs, Newsletter, Country Liaison - hereinafter each "Sub-Committee") have been established by the EULAR Board in accordance with the statutes of EULAR and then by-laws of the Committee.

The Sub-Committees support EULAR's and the Committee's objective, with the aim to organise and promote EMEUNET’s activities. The Sub-Committees do not pursue gainful or self-help purposes.

Get involved in the EMEUNET Sub-Committees

Country Liaisons (CLs) are young rheumatologists or researchers who officially serve as key contact points between EMEUNET and their countries, which are EULAR Scientific Member Societies (see list), to promote EMEUNET’s activities locally.

CLs are responsible for:

Disseminating EMEUNET opportunities (e.g., newsletters, courses, job offers, surveys)
Increasing EMEUNET’s visibility by presenting it at national events and meetings
Supporting local networking among young professionals
Providing feedback and helping shape future outreach efforts

Throughout their term, CLs are guided by the EMEUNET Country Liaison Subcommittee, which ensures coordination, provides onboarding and fosters collaboration between countries.

CLs are vital in connecting national and international rheumatology communities and empowering the next generation of professionals across Europe.

EULAR Task Forces - CALL IS CLOSED

EULAR Task Forces offer a fascinating opportunity for EMEUNET members, enabling young investigators to learn how EULAR recommendations and points to consider are generated and updated. EULAR particularly invites EMEUNET representatives to provide advice how the recommendations or points-to-consider will be received among young professionals in rheumatology.

Peer-Review Mentoring Programme 2026 - CALL IS OPEN

Strengthen your skills in scientific peer review under the guidance of leading experts in rheumatology. Over the course of the programme, selected mentees will review five scientific papers from EULAR journals, receive personalised feedback, and engage in valuable mentoring sessions. The programme is designed for motivated early‑career researchers eager to develop confidence and competence in evaluating research quality and methodology. Successful participants will earn a certificate qualifying them to review for prestigious EULAR journals.

Research Ambassadors for the EULAR INSPIRE Task Force - CALL IS OPEN

Applications are now open for Researcher Ambassadors within the EULAR INSPIRE initiative.

Support meaningful Patient Research Partner (PRP) involvement in research, connect researchers and PRPs, and help promote collaborative research across EULAR countries.

2027 EULAR Edgar Stene Prize - Call for Submissions from Clinicians, Rheumatologists and Researchers!

Awarded at the European Congress of Rheumatology, the EULAR Edgar Stene Prize recognises the winner of an essay competition for people affected by rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs). To mark EULAR’s 80th anniversary in 2027, the Prize is expanding beyond its longstanding PARE competition to also welcome clinicians, researchers and health professionals working in the field.

This special anniversary edition celebrates the progress achieved through collaboration across the rheumatology community, highlighting the shared commitment of patients and professionals to improving the lives of people affected by RMDs. Join the conversation and share your perspective on the theme:

“80 Years of Progress: What do rheumatology advances mean for people living with RMDs today?”

We invite you to take this special opportunity to help illuminate what 80 years of progress in rheumatology has meant – and what it should mean in the future – for people living with RMDs.
